What is Google Algorithm?

Goal - De-rank sites with low-quality content.

It is launched in Feb24, 2011. This update isto reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research.Google Panda is an algorithm used to assign a content quality score to webpage’s and down-rank sites with low-quality, spammy, or thin content.

Hummingbird


Goal - Produce more relevant search results by better understanding the meaning behind queries.

It is launched on 22 Aug 2013. Google Hummingbird is a major algorithm change that has to do with interpreting search queries, and providing search results that match searcher intent, rather than individual keywords within the query. It is launched on 24 July 2014. This core algorithm, meaning that the same SEO factors are now being used to rank local and non-local Google results. This update also uses location and distance as a key factor in ranking the results.

Google's Mobile Friendly Update (aka Mobilegeddon) is meant to ensure that pages optimized for mobile devices rank at the top of mobile search, and subsequently, down-rank pages that are not mobile friendly. Visiting these sites via mobile browser and slower processors shows that page speed and load time seems to be a heavier weighted ranking factor over this new mobile-friendly update. Google is introducing a mobile friendly test where you can find your website is mobile friendly or not.
